How to lead a song

with Nikki Berry

This workshop is for anyone who leads—or wants to lead—group singing in settings like classrooms, Kapa Haka, or other cultural or community spaces.

You’ll learn how to choose a key that suits the voices in your group, so singing feels tuneful and comfortable. The tutor will guide you in understanding your song: What note does it start on? What’s the rhythmic feel? What kind of count-in will help everyone begin together with confidence?

No music theory knowledge is needed—just a love of singing and a desire to make the experience as musical and enjoyable as it can be.
