Many of the students who started with us as year twos are displaying exceptional musical skills. They are confidently reading, writing and creating simple rhythms and melodies.
Most are singing without assistance, accurately and joyfully. Ninety percent of the class demonstrate a clear understanding of the concepts of beat, rhythm and tempo. The children can consistently aurally identify, reproduce, read and write three notes of the major scale, confidently transcribe rhythmic patterns to paper, and play on percussion and body percussion.
Next steps are to solidify the visual and kinesthetic assocations with notes, (solfa hand signs and staff, rhythm names) before increasing the repertoire of notes and rhythmic patterns that can be sung, written, read and played.
